QUESTION

"Can I wear silver and gold jewelry together?"

MY TAKE

You can. Many of us learned that we shouldn’t.

Style is full of guidelines passed down through generations or picked up through years of marketing and media. Wear the matching jewelry set. Make sure your shoes and bag match. Don’t mix this with that. Some may still serve us. Others deserve an unsubscribe.

Mixing metals is an easy place to experiment. Try a piece that already combines silver, gold, or even rose gold. You may already own a watch, ring, bracelet, or necklace that does.

Personal style grows through curiosity and experimentation. Trying something you haven’t practiced, or perhaps never saw anyone in your family do, can feel uncomfortable at first. Familiarity has a powerful pull and can keep us stuck in our ways. Sometimes you have to experiment before something new starts to feel like you.

TODAY'S MOVE

Shop your closet for a piece that already mixes metals. If you don’t have one, add it to your lust list.

QUESTION

"I just go promoted. Do I need to change what I wear?"

MY TAKE

Congratulations. And yes, it may be time to elevate.

A promotion comes with new responsibilities, expectations, and visibility. Your presence should reflect the leadership role you’ve stepped into.

That doesn’t necessarily mean buying a new wardrobe. It might mean replacing the cardigan with a blazer, adding a sport coat instead of another button-down, or finally buying the investment watch you’ve been saving for. Maybe it’s time to update your hairstyle, elevate your work bag, or pay more attention to the details you carry into the room every day.

Getting dressed is one of the ways we communicate that we understand the responsibility we’ve been given. Everything about your presence can help reinforce that message.

A promotion on paper still has to be communicated in person.

TODAY'S MOVE

Look at your overall presence and ask: “Does this reflect the level of responsibility I’m carrying today?”
